Also, I am trying to clear my desk to make room for the project I have been slaving over the past two months. This little fic, which came to me as I was driving home from Starbucks one night, would NOT go away. So here it is.

On Saturday the 14th at 4AM UTC/GMT we will be upgrading the operating system of our network load balancers to a newer version, one that will allow us to use both CPUs! Nifty, because multiprocessing is nice.

Since we have 2 load balancers, the plan is to upgrade 1 at a time, and there really should be very little impact to our website. Hopefully you won't notice a thing and I'll get to go back to the hotel and watch some wonderful late night infomercials.

We've got a lot of exciting projects coming up for 2010 and we're hoping that we'll be able to deliver them all to you, that you will find it useful/cool/lovely and then you will use the site even more. Behind-the-scenes work like this will give us the capacity to handle the anticipated traffic, so expect a few more maintenance windows especially in the beginning of next year as we've got some neat ideas to improve performance around here! We had the recent 30-45 minute outage yesterday due to one of our logging databases filling up disk space -- not so great design coupled with my human error in handling the initial problem -- and it looks like we're going to finally have some resources to eliminate stuff like that. I can't wait!

As usual, I will be updating status.livejournal.org before and after, just in case you are not able to reach our main website during the work.

I just want to vent for a moment. I have been browsing/searching the huge world of fanfiction for over a week now, trying to find stories with certain themes/categories/criteria and one thing really irks me. Non-existent Summaries! When I am trying to find fic that has certain topics or scenes in it, I need more details than just "missing scene for this episode" or "Daniel reflects" or "What would Jack do?" etc.
If I am going to be starting to read a fic that is hundreds of pages long, I need to know if it is going to be something I am interested in before I start! There are at least a hundred fics on my hard drive already, but most of them I am just taking a chance on because they are labeled as "Angst, H/C, Slash" but that describes half of all SG-1 fic for cryin' out loud! :P
Does anyone else have pet peeves when it comes to fanfic?

I had this demented idea last night when I was dreaming. I want to read a fic where Daniel is tied (spread-eagle?) to the stargate itself, and then threatened with the gate dialing. You know, so that when it dials another gate, the splash thing will disintigrate him! 0___0 Well, it could be a major sexy game, or whatever. It was just an idea, but it would be hard to make it work, what with the gate being under guard and in use all the time. If there isn't a fic with this type of thing, and you feel compelled to write one, let me know where it is so I can read it! ;)

I am going to try my hand at writing short fics again, although it has been about 8 years since I wrote, and I was in the Sentinel fandom at that time. It's eerie to re-read my fic, it makes me all hot and bothered, as if I am reading someone else's fic, because I don't even remember writing most of them. Has that ever happened to anyone else? I was quite young back then, and wrote a lot of angsty H/C and rape and suicidal pieces that are really quite bad. I tend to like them the angsty the better, and I like them descriptive.
I am going to put this prompt out there because there are a LOT of kink fics, but not more than one or two that I can find with my favorite kink.

I am asking for anyone who feels compelled, to write something along these lines, all Daniel Whumping, of course:

-Autoerotic Asphyxiation, maybe Daniel discovers his kink accidentally, maybe it's a kink of Jack's and he tries it out on Daniel, maybe Daniel has been doing this all along and almost dies by doing it wrong by himself. I also would like to read one or two where Daniel is tortured by Thugs/Goa'ould/Military/Whatever by breath control, water, bagging, hanging, etc.

-Anything over-the-top angsty, where Daniel is addicted to drugs, or is suicidal for some reason.

If I succeed at writing anything I am not too embarassed to post, I will either put it in a new post or comment here with it. Please comment here with a link if you respond to my challenge! :)

There are several specifics I am looking for, but not any specific to one story. The more recs the better! I am just now getting addicted to reading fanfic again for the first time in years! :)

-Jack/Daniel: Alcoholic Jack who abuses Daniel (or any Jack abusing Daniel, sexually, physically, mentally)
-Slash Jack/Daniel where the kink of breath control is there (especially in water!)
-Gen Daniel Bashing, where he is tortured by means of breath control/drowning whatever
-Daniel getting injured and going blind, paralyzed, or just permanently injured. Slash J/D would be great
-Suicidal Jack or Daniel, or Drug Abuse, Addiction, Self-Injury, Eating Disorders. Slash would be cool but gen is okay too.

Anything along these lines would be awesome! I also am browsing the web for still-working links to good Jack/Daniel manips and songvids I can save to my computer. Any links are much appreciated! :)

I cannot for the life of me remember where I read this fic where Jack and Daniel are in a... I want to say wraith dart, but I really don't remember. (And I know, wraith dart in SG-1? But for some reason, that's what comes to mind. It probably wasn't a dart, but something similar.)

All I remember was that it was a small space, hardly large enough for two people. I think Daniel was the only one supposed to be in it, but somehow pushed Jack inside with him, because he didn't want to leave him behind on the planet, or whatever.

Anyways, Jack's butt is pressing against Daniel, and Daniel is getting aroused. Jack's all 'it's okay, that's natural' or whatever. I think near the end, the dart/whatever they were in was crashing or something -- I don't know...

I'm really sorry for how vague this is, but I just can't remember ):
